Confronting the Crisis in

Library Education Panelist

Elaine Zaremba Jennerich

Elaine Zaremba Jennerich serves as Director of Organization Development and Training for the University of Washington Libraries.  For the past twelve years she has been guiding a model (Association of Research Libraries “best practices” program) staff development and training program that reaches 450 library staff members on three campuses.  She has an M.S.L.S. from Drexel University, a Ph.D. in Library Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and is the co-author of The Reference Interview as Creative Art.

"The relationship between LIS education and staff development is akin to the care of fine woods.  A graduate comes to us with one coat of high quality varnish. It takes years of development, training and personal motivation to add the layers that create a luster of excellence."
