Michael Jensen

Michael Jensen

Michael Jensen was appointed Director of Web communications for the National Academies in 2002. He continues to be Director of Publishing Technologies at the National Academies Press, which makes over 3500 books (over 550,000 pages) from the National Academy of Sciences, National Research Council, Institute of Medicine, and National Academy of Engineering's fully searchable and free to read online library. Previously, Mr. Jensen was Electronic Publisher at the Johns Hopkins University Press, and Electronic Media Manager at the University of Nebraska Press. He is also currently a technical partner of the History Cooperative, which makes the works of the most prestigious journals in history available online to subscribing institutions.

“Our academic information space must evolve, but can only evolve with the participation of libraries, scholarly societies, scholarly publishers, and scholars themselves. To let legal and academic models from the past dictate that evolution would be like insisting that the "four humours" should still direct medical practice.”
