Library Challenges & Opportunities

Lucy Hansen

Lucy Hansen is the Lead Librarian in the South Texas Independent School District and Biblioteca Las Américas in Mercedes, Texas. She has an M.L.I.S. from UT-Austin, an M.A. in ESL/German from the University of Northern Iowa, and has been a Fulbright scholar in applied linguistics. "Always look to the next level."

Chandra McKenzie

Chandra McKenzie is a SUNY Buffalo and Rochester Institute of Technology alumna with dual Master’s Degrees in Instructional Technology and Library Science. Ms. McKenzie served as Associate Director of RIT’s Wallace Library for fourteen years. She was named Assistant Provost and Director of RIT Libraries in 2001.

“A guiding principle for me is to do what it takes to make it easy for our campus community to get the library resources they need, without having to come in the building. At the same time, make what we are doing inside the library building compelling enough that they just can’t stay away.”

Josie Parker

Josie Parker has worked in several public library systems. She is currently Director of the Ann Arbor District Library (Ann Arbor, Michigan), the president-elect of the Michigan Library Association, and a board member of the Public Library Association.

"I believe wholeheartedly in the concept of libraries as "place" and work hard to guarantee that public access to collections and spaces are equitable in our  community."

Nancy Tessman

Nancy Tessman has been a member of the staff at the Salt Lake City Public Library since 1976 and has served as Director since 1996.  The award-winning Main Library opened in 2003 and now serves close to 3 million people annually. In 2006, the Salt Lake City Public Library was recognized as Library Journal's Library of the Year.

"There has never been a more crucial or promising time for libraries to assert their significance in our communities as the keystone of a democratic society."
