Richard Dougherty


Richard Dougherty is the President of Dougherty and Associates, a library consulting firm that specializes in helping libraries plan and manage change.

He is the former Director of Libraries at the University of Michigan and University of California, Berkeley. He was also a professor at the University of Michigan School of Information for many years. Dougherty has served on many library and publishing organizational boards and has been President of ALA. 

Richard also received numerous honors from library associations including the Hugh Atkinson (risk-taking and leadership) and Joseph Lippincott (lifetime service) awards from ALA. He has been organizing and co-hosting College of DuPage teleconferences since 2002.
