Joseph Janes

Joseph Janes is an Associate Professor and Chair of Library and Information Science, the Information School of the University of Washington in Seattle, and Founding Director of the Internet Public Library. Dr. Janes is interested in reference, particularly in the use of technologies to mediate and assist and the use of networked resources in reference. His research is on models of practice in digital reference. He teaches courses in reference, in online searching, in research methods and statistics, and on the use of Internet technologies in librarianship. Dr. Janes also serves as a consultant to the Digital Reference Education Initiative project.

Nancy John

Nancy John is Assistant University Librarian at the University Library of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois. She is also an Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.Nancy's rearch interests include information dissemination and retrieval, public policy as it affects access to information, economics of electronic information, and empowerment of citizenry via access to Internet.

Debra Kakuk

Debra earned her M.L.I.S. degree from Wayne State University in 1998.  Since 2003, she has been a reference librarian at the College of DuPage Library, supporting the Health Sciences Division as well as the ESL, GED, and ABE programs.  Previously, Debra spent five years as the Educational Technology Librarian for the Mayo Clinic Libraries in Rochester, MN, and also worked as a public librarian for Michigan’s Kent District Library System. Debra has traveled extensively teaching consumer health workshops to multi-type library staff, and has provided consumer health reference services to individuals in public, academic and medical libraries.

Philip Kesten

Philip Kesten is an Associate Professor of Physics at Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California. He received his B.S. degree in Physics from M.I.T. in 1978 and the Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Michigan in 1985. At Santa Clara since 1990, Dr. Kesten serves both as the Chair of the Department of Physics and the chairman of the University's Technology Steering Committee. He has served as a multimedia consultant to book publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc. and as Senior Editor of Modern Dad magazine. Dr. Kesten is active in a variety of projects in which technology is used to enhance the academic endeavors of teaching and learning.

Daniel Kies

Daniel Kies is a professor of English and Linguistics in the English department at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. His research interests include composition and literacy theory, syntax, stylistics, and corpus linguistics. Dan is also interested in the potential that communications and information technology holds for teaching and learning.

Anne M. Kozak

Anne has been the Director of the Thomas Ford Memorial Library in Western Springs, Illinois since 1986. Her background is in public libraries, having worked in children's services, reference, and readers' advisory. She received her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University in 1971 and her M.L.S. degree from Rosary College in 1977. Anne is a member of the Illinois Library Association and the American Library Association.

Michelle Kraft

Michelle obtained her Masters of Library Science at the University of Missouri-Columbia focusing primarily on medical librarianship.  Currently she is the head medical librarian at South Pointe Hospital.  Previously she was a medical librarian at the Cleveland Clinic in the Alumni Library.  She has taught medical and health information retrieval classes to physicians and other health care personnel, emphasizing effective search strategies and evaluative techniques.  She regularly teaches community health center classes on finding medical information on the Internet.

Diane Kresh

Diane Kresh is Director of the Veterans History Project at the Library of Congress. She was the founder of the Collaborative Digital Reference Service (now QuestionPoint, a service co-developed by LC and OCLC), a project to build a global, web-based reference service among libraries and research institutions. She is a frequent speaker at professional meetings and conferences and the author of several articles on internet reference services. Ms. Kresh received the 2001 Federal 100 award for her role in launching the Collaborative Digital Reference Service, and in 2002 she received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Catholic University of America in recognition of her contribution to the field of library and information science.

David Lankes

David Lankes is the Director of the Information Institute of Syracuse (IIS) and an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University's School of Information Studies. Dr. Lankes' research is in education information and digital reference services. He has authored books and written numerous book chapters and journal articles on the Internet and digital reference, and also serves as a principle investigator on the Digital Reference Education Initiative project.
