Best New Technologies: Keeping Up with the Storm

Questions for Soaring to Excellence Workshop

  • You’ve introduced quite a few new technologies I want to try. But my time is limited. Of the various 2.0 technologies what is your recommendation for one I can start with that will most benefit my library?
  • I don’t get tagging. There seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason to the tags people assign to their information. Can you please tell us why we should care?
  • The “wisdom of the crowd” concept seems to make some sense, but on the other hand crowds sometimes are capable of doing some pretty unwise and illogical things. Can’t following the crowd lead to some bad decision making?
  • I’ve tried to introduce a number of these 2.0 technologies at my library, and the reaction from some of my colleagues and library director has so far been a real disappointment. They don’t want to seem to try anything new. What can I do to jumpstart the technology revolution at my library?
  • Can the panelists tell us their favorite social bookmarking site, and what they like about it?
  • How can I continue to “Keep Up” with the storm after today’s program?
  • Librarians have always been exploring and integrating new technologies to improve their services and resources. Don’t forget who the leaders were in applying CD-ROM technologies for information retrieval or were early creators of web sites. Isn’t Library 2.0 just “old wine in a new bottle?”
