Unit 1: Growth and Development of the Male Reproductive SystemThis unit provides a brief overview of fetal development of the male reproductive system. It then addresses changes that occur in puberty including the effects of the gonadotropic hormones. It concludes with a discussion of the male climacteric.
Unit 2: External Structures of the Male Reproductive SystemUnit 2 covers the external structures, the penis and the scrotum. Their structure and function are discussed followed by physical examination of the structures. Pathologies related to these structures include cancer of the penis, sexually transmitted diseases, hydrocele, and varicocele.
Unit 3: Internal Organs of the Male Reproductive SystemUnit 3 covers the internal organs: the accessory sex glands, testicles, and ducts. Their structure and function are discussed followed by physical examination of the structures. Pathologies related to these structures include benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate cancer, prostatitis, epididymitis, inguinal hernia, spermatocele, cryptochidism, infertility, orchitis, testicular cancer, and testicular torsion. Other topics covered include sperm production, prostatectomy, vasectomy, and testicular self examinination.
Unit 4: Physiology of Erection, Emission, and EjaculationThe last tutorial unit covers the physiology of erection, emission, and ejaculation. Pathologies discussed include ejaculation problems, erectile dysfunction and priapism.
Unit 5: Self TestThis unit consists of a test bank of 30 items. The test bank questions were designed to address all levels of difficulty. Knowledge and comprehension questions are used to ensure the student has mastered the necessary foundation. Application and analysis questions are used to test the student's ability to apply the information to client situations.
